Friedman’s interpretation of the analogies of experience as narrowly correlated to Newton's physics draws heavily on his interpretation of the Metaphysical Foundations of Natural Science. Watkins on the other hand, argues against such a deductive relation between the first Critique and the Metaphysical Foundations. My paper offers arguments in favor of a kind of deductive relation between the analogies of experience and the laws of mechanics such that the former do not necessarily yield Newtonian physics. The laws of mechanics presuppose the transcendental principles. As such, I would like to suggest, the Metaphysical Foundations provides an example of a metaphysica specialis made possible by the propedeutic function of the Critique of pure Reason.
